Week 7

This week I researched what metal suppliers are in the area that we could buy our metal from and hopefully bend our third rail design. We will be reaching out to these companies in the next few days to see which ones are capable of bending the tubing we will be using for the third rail as well as the turn around time for such a order. Below is the list of suppliers that we will be reaching out to. Alan Steel & Supply Master Steel Vander-Bend Sims Metal Management Steel Werx JP Metal Fabrication

Week 6

This week involved some minor modifications to our presentation due to additional progress we made with our work. My work was mainly working on a estimated cost for our materials for construction this semester. These estimates are tabulated on the table below. The lumber prices are based on Home Depot list prices, while the steel prices are based on the average price I was able to find online, hardware is a high estimate based on hardware from Bolt Depot. Today during our section I went over to the Engineering courtyard were all the large components are stored at the moment to see what additional materials are usable for our design. There is a large amount of lumber stacked up, but that will need to be sorted once the track is setup for modification. I also found some usable 2x2" steel tubing, probably in the range of 5-8 feet, that should be mostly usable and allow us to reduce some of our costs even more. There is also more than enough 1/4" steel plate that can be used to

Week 5

This week had a few different tasks to be completed. Together we prepared our presentation, but were unable to give it due to time constraints, but will be giving it first thing next week. We also created a team poster for the work space with our head shots on it. My more project focused work this week was working on creating all the shop drawings that we can use once we begin construction. I also continued working on our BOM so that we could have a better cost estimate to provide Tynan. We will be reaching out to local metal supplies within the next week to get some quotes for the materials required, as well as the fabrication of the third rail design. Because we are modifying the existing full scale track, we are expecting our overall cost to be below $2000.
